Grab a fika in Södermalm.
Kaffebar is a true gem when you are in desperate need of a good cup of coffee. Sit down, read a magazine, scroll through your Instagram feed, or talk with some nice locals—or do absolutely nothing at all. It’s all up to you.
Don’t be fooled by the humble surroundings of Bysistorget—this coffee bar is a nice stop when you need a refill of energy in the form of caffeine and sugar after some shopping in Södermalm. Kaffebar translates into Coffee Bar, and it would be quite weird if they didn’t serve great coffee. Don’t worry, they do. However, Amanda points out that tea drinkers might have better use of their money somewhere else. If you for some reason don’t drink coffee you can treat yourself with something from their selection of tasty sandwiches, snacks, and pastries delivered from Valhallabagariet, one of the best bakeries in Stockholm.
When the sun finally appears, which it seldom does in this country, the outdoor area will be packed with all kinds of people in all ages. There’s a minimalistic and easy vibe with a strong sense of culture lingering in the air, making it a popular hangout for artists, poets, and musicians.
We recommend you to not come here with an empty stomach. It’s more the type of place where you catch up with an old friend over a fika (a word you will come to love), or when you want a place to sit with your laptop to work on that novel you’ve never taken the time to write. If you get here early, start your morning with a small breakfast while watching Stockholm wake up and go to work through the large windows facing Hornsgatan.
Watch the cherry blossoms
Each spring, the cherry blossoms right outside turn this gloomy street into a display of floral fireworks. But the peak bloom period lasts only a few days, and precisely when it happens varies each year.
