A visit to Copenhagen

Food, shopping and design

Copenhagen is one of our favorite cities, and it’s easy to understand why. It has such a rich culture of food, fashion, and design, so if you love to eat and go shopping you will fall in love with the Danish capital just like we did.

During our summer vacation, we spontaneously drove down from Gothenburg to spend a night in Copenhagen. We walked around to wander around aimlessly, eating and drinking a lot of coffee. And a few weekends ago, Amanda flew down for a girls-only weekend together with her friends.

These are just some of the spots we really like:

Raw42
A modern approach to plant-based eating—no gluten, no lactose. Brunch, burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, matcha lattes, golden lattes, and really nice raw desserts.

Far´s Dreng
An amazing and modern restaurant that Amanda is totally in love with. They serve both acai and matcha lattes (her favorites!). Drop in for breakfast, dinner, drinks or coffee. Good for vegans!
Ny Adelgade 7

Nordicnesting.dk
The Danish are famous for great design, and it can definitely be found at Nordicnesting.dk. They offer a big selection of Danish and Nordic design classics, as well as new designs, arts, and craft.

Westmarket
We love street food, so WestMarket in Vesterbro (really cool and laidback area) was like heaven for us. It’s really a mix between a marketplace and a hangout spot. With so much to choose from, it was hard to decide on only one thing. So we ate it all.

BAEST
A cool industrial place with a chill vibe and tasty pizzas! They make everything from scratch with organic ingredients. The drinks weren’t so bad, either.
Guldbergsgade 29

ARKET
ARKET is the latest chain of stores from H&M, offering modern-day essential products for men, women, children and the home. Its mission is to democratise quality through widely accessible, well-made, durable products designed to be used and loved for a long time.
Købmagergade 33

Mad & Kaffe
Cool place with “tapas” inspired breakfast. We recommend you to order between three to five dishes. Just bear in mind that it’s not the best place for vegans.
Sønder Blvd. 68

Gasoline Grill
Gasoline Grill has been described by many (including Noma, one of the best restaurants in the world) as the best burger joint in Copenhagen. It’s located in an old gas station just a few blocks away from Strøget, the main shopping street. Since it’s so small, they only have a few tables outside, but it’s worth it.
Landgreven 10

Torvehallerne
Torvehallerne is main food market of Copenhagen. Over 115 000 people flock here every single week to eat or get fresh ingredients and specialties to bring home. In 2014, the British magazine “The Guardian” was put Torvehallerne in the top 10 of food halls in Europe.

Grandpa Scandinavian life store

A shop for almost everything

Grandpa is not just a hip fashion store. Nor is it a bookstore or houseware shop. Well, they do sell all these things, but they’ve managed to provide a different kind of shopping by giving you the chance to go home with a piece of the Scandinavian life in a shopping bag.

A few weekends ago, we were wandering around in the hipster neighborhood of SoFo—ridiculous acronym for South of Folkungagatan— and ended up doing some shopping in a store that’s named after your grandpa (yeah, it’s called Grandpa). It’s super hipster and somewhat the grownup version of Urban Outfitters, selling high-quality products that have a purpose and that you’ll actually use.

So when you’ve stumbled into this boutique, you’ll find a nice range of fashion for both men and women. Even though everything isn’t from Scandinavian designers, you can be sure to find the latest trends that rule the north of Europe. The staff is super helpful and knowledgeable so don’t hesitate to ask them for help if you’re looking for a certain something. When you’re done browsing through the racks, you should check out the selection of homewares, posters, and all the other cool stuff they have to offer.

The brand is never more important than the productgrandpastore.com

Stockholm, Gothenburg & Malmö

This shop on Södermannagatan was their first store when it opened in 2003, and since then they’ve expanded to five locations spread out in Stockholm, Gothenburg (our hometown!), and Malmö.

Mahalo vegan café

A world-class vegan café in Södermalm

This café in Södermalm has become a super popular hotspot for people looking for a more conscious choice of fika. Get there early or expect to queue up outside along with all the bloggers and celebs trying to get their hands on some of Mahalo’s vegan treats.

At Mahalo, they make all their food with love for the environment, the animals, and of course–their guests. By working with organic ingredients from local suppliers, they prove that you don’t need meat or dairy to eat good food. Amanda’s biggest passion is food that’s healthy for both body and soul, so it’s not strange that Mahalo is her favorite café in Stockholm. Matter of fact, she loves it so much that she even worked here when she was studying food science at uni.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve gone full vegan, or even vegetarian for that matter—this instagram-friendly café serves great food that just happens to be plant-based. The sweet potato fries are straight up fire, the acai bowl with homemade peanut butter is unmatchable, and the matcha latte will make other cafés green with envy (pun intended). Oh, and the desserts are gooooood.

If you snooze, you lose

If you’re going here on the weekend, you should definitely wake up early—especially if you want to get a table in their super cozy backyard. And dogs are of course allowed!
