Top 5 cafés for vegans in Stockholm

Stockholm is a plant-based fika heaven

Hi, Amanda here.

Today, we’re starting something new on the blog. From now on, we’re going to put together posts containing our favorites within a certain theme every now and then. And what better way to start it off than with vegan cafés in Stockholm?  Since I am a vegetarian that doesn’t drink coffee,  my list of go-to cafés is slightly different than Fabian’s. I like nutritious, healthy and vegan food, and after a few years in Stockholm, I have found the places for me. So if you’re visiting Stockholm, here are my top five vegan cafés:

Greasy Spoon

Södermalm & Vasastan
This is more of the place for brunch after a night out, but you can still drop by for a fika. The brunch is fantastic and has a variety of vegan options on the menu. I would certainly recommend the buckwheat pancakes or the avocado toast. They don’t take reservations, so expect to wait for 30–60 mins for a table. Their Södermalm location is a lot cozier and authentic, but the one in Vasastan is bigger better suited for those who want to show off on the gram.

Vegan pancakes at Greasy Spoon

Mahalo Hälsocafét

Södermalm & Vasastan
A 100% vegan café with everything from wraps, pancakes and raw food desserts. My absolute favorite is the acai bowl loco or the pancakes. And the raw food desserts… and the sweet potato fries… the list can actually be quite long.  This is perfect for both breakfast and lunch but beware of the long line of people trying to get through the door. Read our post about it here.

Gast

Vasastan
A really cozy and vegan-friendly cafe with amazing porridge and almond butter! Beautiful interiors and a nice selection of books and magazines to read while enjoying a nice breakfast. You want something to drink? Try the turmeric latte. Read our post about it here.

Porridge at Gast

Pom & Flora

Södermalm & Vasastan
Not everything is a 100% vegan at the hip and always crowded Pom & Flora, but they still offer plenty of vegan and vegetarian options on their menu. Just remember that their Södermalm location is not open during the weekends.

Sthlm Raw

Hornstull in Södermalm
This vegan raw food café in hipstery  Hornstull offers a wide variety of tasty, nutritious cakes and desserts. You could also indulge in some cold-pressed juices, smoothies, chia pudding and other vegan snacks.

Bonus tip: oat milk!

It is also worth mentioning that Johan & Nyström has some of the best matcha lattes in town. So if you’re in the mood for a hot beverage I would definitely recommend this place. And if you haven’t tried oat milk (instead of soy or almond milk) give it a try! You can get it at most places and it makes the even the vegan lattes extra creamy. Yum!
